What is MODA, and who is Sofia?

Susan Jentzsch began her own clothing line out of a desire to create active wear that fits a curvaceous woman.  Having battled her own self-image and weight issues, she knows first hand the struggle of getting into unflattering, poorly made fitness clothes.  “Sometimes half the battle of going to workout is getting over not feeling good in your workout clothes,” says Susan. 

 Susan’s drive behind MODA by Sofia (“Moda” is Spanish for “fashion”) is to empower women’s greatness and for women to feel good about themselves.  This is what she is instilling in her 9-year-old daughter, Gabriela Sofia, for who the clothing line is named after. 

 The first line made was everydayMODA, activewear created for comfort and ease in a woman’s everyday life.  However, as a longtime, Jazzercise instructor, Susan kept seeing the need for quality fitness clothing that better represents real women, not just the super-fit. Thus, MODAperformance activewear was created in both the Pluscious and SkinnyGirl cuts. 

 “The idea behind our activewear is that no matter what size you are, you feel good and comfortable in your exercise clothes. That keeps us feeling good and motivated to stay fit,” says Susan.  Proudly made in the USA, MODAperformance clothing line is made to fit both the Pluscious woman and the SkinnyGirl.  The Pluscious line was created with a more generous fit in the leg, hips and bottom with ample coverage and support on top.  Pluscious keeps in mind the shapes and curves of a woman, not just the wider version of a size 4. The SkinnyGirl line is for those gals that are either born that way or work hard to keep that shape.

 In June 2009, Susan’s clothing line was first shown at a Jazzercise convention in Palm Springs.  Since then MODA by Sofia has been included in the Jazzercise catalogue numerous times.  In 2010, MODA by Sofia launched their own website for online sales and started to be featured in select San Diego boutiques and resorts.

 In the fall of 2011, MODA by Sofia was selected to be the exclusive fitness clothing sponsor of the “Lifetime of Health and Wellness Makeover” reality series on Lifetime Television’s The Balancing Act.  The four women on their wellness journey are will be wearing MODAperformance clothing and Susan will featured in sponsored fit tips throughout the six months of programming.
